On Sunday, December 8 the Allentown Association and the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Historic Site present the Secrets of Allentown Tour of Historic Homes, an interior tour of private homes in Buffalo’s Allentown National Historic District.
The Tour of Homes is a rare chance to go inside the beautiful homes of Allentown that so many pass by each day and wonder what secrets dwell inside these wonderfully restored properties. Houses on the tour are private residences, never open to the public.
Making the tour even more special, all of the properties will be fully decorated for Christmas. The tour begins at the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site, 641 Delaware Avenue. Ticketed guests will pick up tour booklets that list the secret locations of houses on the self guided tour. The booklets will describe the history of each home on the tour.
In addition, the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site’s Wilcox Mansion will be open as a first stop on the tour, where the first floor rooms of the mansion will be decorated in the Victorian style – including the library where President Roosevelt took the Oath of Office on September 14, 1901.
The Allentown Association’s headquarters house at 61 College Street will be open with rest rooms available and the opportunity to warm up with a hot cocoa or individually brewed coffee. Parking is available at 641 Delaware and a free trolley will make stops at houses on the tour.
Tickets will go on sale mid-October. Stay tuned!
Due to the nature of touring private homes, a limited number of tickets will be available so advance purchase is strongly recommended.
Advance reservations may also be purchased in person at the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site at 641 Delaware Avenue.
